Red Skin After Sunbathing? 4 Skincare Tricks Part 1

Have you ever forgotten your sunscreen? Or perhaps you booked atanning session that was too long? Regardless, we believe you wanted to achieve your dream tan in a flash. However, remember not to let your desire for a beautiful appearance overshadow the principles of healthy sun exposure. Excessive sun exposure often causes painful and dangerous sunburn. What should you do when the first signs of a sunburn appear on your skin? How can you soothe irritation after tanning? We've got some tips.

When is sunbathing not healthy?

Sun-kissed skin looks incredibly attractive. It's no wonder we enjoy sunbathing so much. Besides a beautiful bronzed complexion, it also improves our well-being. How is this possible? Sun rays release the happiness hormone in our bodies, which makes us feel much better. But do we always tan responsibly? You're probably well aware that prolonged unprotected sun exposure can irritate the skin and lead to burns. Red, itchy, and burning skin... Do you know that?

How to prevent sunburn?

Let's start from the beginning. The point isn't to alleviate symptoms, but to prevent irritation.

On the beach

The best solution is to use sunscreen creams.

Remember to enjoy the sun's benefits in moderation during the hours when the sun's rays are at their strongest, i.e. between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Even if you're relaxing on the beach, try to spend your time actively. Take a walk along the seashore, enjoy water sports, and don't just lie flat on the beach.

After every swim in the sea, lake, or pool, remember to reapply your SPF. The water may have washed it off your skin!

In the solarium

When it comes to using sunscreen, this rule only applies to sunbathing. In a tanning bed, you should only use products specifically designed for that purpose. SPF can completely block the development of a tan, and that's not what we want!

Remember to choose the appropriate lamp power and tanning session length. If you're a beginner, ask the tanning salon staff for advice – they'll be happy to help.

How to care for your skin after sunbathing?

There are many ways to care for your skin after sunbathing. We primarily focus on natural methods, but we also use proven after-sun products that soothe irritation and quickly transform your skin's red color into a sunny brown.

Cool shower and body hydration

The first thing you should do to relieve the pain of a sunburn is take a cool bath. Cold water lowers your body temperature, which has an analgesic and soothing effect. Be careful not to bathe in icy water, as contact with hot skin can cause thermal shock.

Cooling the body from the outside also requires hydrating the body from the inside – water is essential for proper functioning. It protects against overheating by removing excess heat through sweat. If you experience sunburn, drink cool, still water or vegetable juices. Avoid drinking coffee, tea, and alcohol, which can lead to dehydration.

Kefir, buttermilk, and sour milk compresses

You probably remember how, as a child, after long days playing on the beach in the sun, your parents would apply kefir, buttermilk, or sour milk compresses to your skin. And with good reason, because dairy products contain vitamins A, D, and E, as well as B vitamins, rich in minerals like zinc, calcium, and protein – they soothe irritations and regenerate sun-damaged skin.

Aloe

Aloe vera is very effective in treating burns, has anti-inflammatory properties, promotes circulation, and inhibits bacterial growth. Aloe vera juice compresses are therefore an excellent treatment for sunburn. It works best when chilled. Aloe vera is also often added to daily body care products and to pre- and after-sun lotions.

Moisturizing after-sun lotions

Deeply moisturizing lotions are good for everything – you should use them daily, especially after sunbathing. Your sun-dried skin will definitely thank you for it.

We recommend the illuminating balm with gold particles, which not only intensely moisturizes and nourishes the skin and soothes irritations thanks to its aloe vera content, but also prolongs the life of your tan. How? This is all thanks to the Bronz'Alg complex, a combination of brown algae extract and acetyl tyrosine. Not to mention the finely ground gold particles that perfectly enhance sun-kissed skin.
