5 rules for using self-tanner
Heading on vacation and wanting to give your skin a golden-brown glow? One way is to take advantage of the benefits of self-tanners. To achieve an out-of-this-world effect, it's worth remembering how to apply self-tanner correctly, but also what to avoid to avoid unsightly spots. Here are 5 rules to follow for a beautiful tan.
Don't rush your application
Trust us, the sooner the worse. If you're in a hurry and don't have enough time to apply the product carefully and evenly, it's best to postpone it. Rushing to apply self-tanner is the first sign that you won't achieve the desired results. You won't avoid spots and streaks if you don't apply your self-tanner carefully!
Do not apply self-tanner with random movements
Apply self-tanner evenly to your entire body – you want your skin tone to be even. Start with one area and slowly work your way to the next (ideally from the bottom up). Spread the product in circular, firm motions. This is the safest method, as it reduces the risk of visible edges of incompletely blended product.
Do not use scrubs after application
While exfoliating is one of the basic steps in preparing your skin for self-tanner application, after applying it, stay away from any kind of exfoliator, especially coarse ones. Otherwise, all your work to achieve the perfect bronze skin will be for nothing – the exfoliation will simply strip away your freshly developed tan.
We recommend using exfoliators only if you want to specifically remove tan lines or unwanted self-tan marks. In that case, the sooner you use this type of product, the better.
Don't forget to moisturize your skin (but don't do it immediately after application)
If you want your tan to impress all the beachgoers and last much longer than usual, remember to use moisturizing products. Don't use them immediately after applying self-tanner; let it absorb and work its magic on the skin's surface. Once you've achieved the desired results and showered, reach for a moisturizing body lotion and use it daily. Regular moisturizing is essential to ensure your tan doesn't lose its sun-kissed glow.
Don't sunbathe without SPF protection
After applying self-tanner , you can safely sunbathe or use a tanning bed. However, remember that just because your skin is brown doesn't protect you from the negative effects of UV radiation. If you decide to tan, be sure to use appropriate cosmetics. For sunbathing, use lotions with SPF, and for tanning beds, reach for professional tanning lotions, accelerators, or bronzing intensifiers.
How to choose the best self-tanner ?
Your choice should fall on the consistency that's most comfortable for you – there are many self-tanning products available on the market, from bronzing mousses to body mists. The color of the tanning mass is also important – compare it to your natural skin tone and choose one or two shades darker, depending on the desired effect. Remember, however, that no matter which cosmetic you choose, the key to success is even application and following the rules after applying the self-tanner.
